On the heels of celebrating German Unification Day, the German Currents festival, held October 4-7, opened with the film “Measuring The World” (Die Vermessung Der Welt) by director Detlev Buck.
In “Measuring the World,” two of the greatest minds of the 19th century, mathematician Carl Friederich Gauss (Florian David Fritz) and scientist Alexander von Humboldt (Albrecht Abraham Schuch) dedicate their studies to measuring and comprehending their worlds. Based on Daniel Kehlmann’s bestselling novel, the visually stunning epic is a playful re-imagining of their lives. The film was nominated for two German Film Awards in 2013 and won Best Costume Design and Best Make-up Design awards at the 2013 Austrian Film Awards.
